The integration of Layerzero with Cronos (CRO) EVM and ZKEVM allows for cross-chain bridges with over 115 blockchain networks, increasing interoperability and liquidity for Cronos users.
Layerzero, a well-known cross-blockchain interoperability protocol, has announced integrations with Cronos (CRO) EVM and Cronos Zkevm, marking a key milestone in cross-chain connections. The move, announced by Cronos Labs and Layerzero, is expected to enhance the development of cross-blockchain applications and bridges, which will allow Cronos users to expand into the broad range of over 115 blockchain networks, including Ethereum and Solana. It links it to fluidity.
Integration details
The integration covers both mainnet and testnet networks, allowing developers to create and extend bridges and tokens across numerous blockchain networks. The development hopes to leverage Layerzero to attract hundreds of applications, thereby serving Cronos users and access to billions of dollars of crypto assets that are securely hosted on Cronos It’s been done.
Impact on Cronos EVM and Zkevm
For Cronos EVM, the leading EVM compatible layer 1 network built on the COSMOS SDK, this integration promotes seamless asset transfer between the Cosmos SDK ecosystem and other EVM compatible blockchains. Cronos EVM leverages the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol for interoperability with the COSMOS ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the Cronos Zkevm, the first elastic chain (layer 2) to be launched on the mainnet after the Zksync era, benefits from the native Ethereum Bridge, which is shared with over 10 other elastic chains. This allows users to provide faster cross-blockchain transfers across a wide range of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks.
Statement from industry leaders
Ken Timsit, Managing Director of Cronos Labs, has emphasized the importance of cross-chain interoperability as a priority since the start of the project. He expressed optimism about the role of integration in improving connectivity between crypto projects and traditional finances in 2025. LayerzeroLabs CEO Bryan Pellegrino highlights Cronos Zkevm as one of the first elastic chains in the Layerzero expansion, highlighting the goal of connecting different types of Chains. .
Future development
Layerzero mainly serves as a developer tool, but these new cross-blockchain features are still unavailable to most end users. However, further announcements are expected soon. New bridging options will be added to the Cronos Bridge portal, including new CRO/ZKCRO and other token bridging options between Cronos EVM and Cronos Zkevm.
Cronos Labs is actively supporting developers interested in taking advantage of these new features. Beyond token bridging, we use Layerzero’s technology to support decentralized applications to develop innovative use cases such as the cross-chain forecast market, real asset tokenization, and cross-chain lending protocols.
