Nvidia is launching RTX Remix, a platform that leverages AI and Ray tracing. This breathes new life into classic games and provides powerful tools for enhanced graphics with modders.
Nvidia has officially launched RTX Remix, a groundbreaking mod platform that combines AI and Ray traces to activate classic video games. The announcement comes as RTX Remix has already captivated the mod community with the ability to end the beta phase and enhance game graphics and extend the lifespan of their beloved titles.
Revolutionize game modifications
RTX Remix is designed for RTX AI PCS, allowing ModDers to capture and enhance game assets using the generated AI tools. According to NVIDIA, the platform supports community models like NVIDIA DLSS 4, RTX Neural Radiation Cache, and PBRFusion 3, offering unparalleled mods.
Since its beta release, over 30,000 modders have used RTX remix to create ray-traced mods for hundreds of classic titles, reaching over 1 million gamers. The platform’s AI-driven tools make Modder easy to create high-quality game remasters by building 4K physics-based rendering assets and speeding up workflows with generated AI.
AI-equipped texture tools
RTX Remix includes an advanced generation AI texture tool that analyzes and upscales low-resolution textures in classic games. AI generates physically accurate materials and increases resolution by up to four times while enhancing normal and roughness maps. The introduction of PbrFusion 3, an AI model developed by Modder Nightraven, further enhances texture quality by providing high quality, conventional, roughness and height maps.
PBRFusion 3 is integrated with RTX Remix, allowing ModDers to use Comfyui for seamless texture processing. This integration simplifies the remaster process and allows even small teams of enthusiasts to create large game remasters.
Integration with REST API
The RTX Remix Toolkit features are accessible via the REST API, allowing modders to link the platform to digital content creation tools such as Blender and mods such as mods such as hammers. This integration allows for efficient export and enhancement of game textures, significantly reducing the time required to remaster the game scene.
Comfyui, an RTX acceleration tool, offers thousands of generated AI models, providing modders with different ways to handle textures and enhance game visuals. This tool also allows modder to use text prompts to generate new texture details and dramatically change the appearance of the scene.
Introducing RTX remix with Half-Life 2 RTX
Nvidia has also announced a free demo of “Half-Life 2 RTX” that will be available on Steam starting March 18th. Built with RTXRemix, this demo highlights the platform’s capabilities and shows you enhanced lighting for raytraced lighting, realistic smoke effects, and improved character details.
“Half-Life 2 RTX” demonstrates the power of Nvidia’s neural rendering technology, including DLSS 4 and neuroradiance cache.
The future of AI in games
NVIDIA’s GTC 2025 further explores the possibilities of AI in AI games, featuring sessions on AI model optimization and cutting-edge hardware utilization. Spotlight is in its advancement towards the RTX AI platform and promises to expand the boundaries of what is possible with AI-driven game development.
